In November 2011, PLDT Global Corporation (PGC) entered into a shareholder agreement with Celcom Axiata Berhad, Malaysia's first and foremost mobile telecommunications provider with over 11 million customers. Established in 1988, it boasts the widest national 2G and 3G networks, covering over 98% of Malaysia. Currently the largest mobile broadband and corporate services provider, Celcom is now moving towards integrated multi-access and multimedia services, in line with evolving technologies and consumer behavior in Malaysia. Celcom is part of the Axiata Group of Companies, one of the world's largest telecommunications companies, with more than 175 million customers across 10 Asian markets.

The recently established MVNO, PLDT Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PLDT MY) through its partnership with Celcom, will be offering mobile prepaid services to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) under the brand name SMART Pinoy.

SMART Pinoy is the brand of our local prepaid GSM SIM card in Malaysia that gives OFWs the same quality mobile service enjoyed by millions of SMART subscribers in the Philippines, i.e., UNLIMITED text from the Philippines, affordable call and text rates (local and international), widest coverage, excellent call quality, broadest range of Pinoy-flavored value-added services and flexible prepaid loading options.
