Nick Justice was born in New York and grew up on the North Shore of Long Island. Raised on pop music and AM radio as a child, he started to lean towards the sounds coming from California as a teenager. The Eagles, Jackson Browne, and Crosby, Stills and Nash prompted him to move to the Golden State. With guitar in hand, he landed in San Diego in the late 1980s where the “cowpunk “ movement in the form of The Blasters, X, and the Beat Farmers was beginning to form.

He started “busking” in Balboa Park, railroad stations, and shopping malls playing his own songs and honing his craft Over the course of 12 years he played in various bands such as Chords of Fame, Guns For Hire, and as a solo act. He has been the opening act for such artists as INXS, Eric Johnson, The Radiators, The Blasters, X, Bodeans and The Del Fuegos.

In 1996, disillusioned by the music business, he put his guitar down, got married, and raised a family.

In 2014, he reemerged with a new record “The Cry of the Street Prophet” where he assembled a cadre of famous Los Angles sidemen, including acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Greg Leisz, guitarist Bobby Cochran, former Jools Holland guitarist Richard Bredice, keyboard player Dave Witham, and former Funky Kings drummer Frank Cotinola.

Two years ago, he released his follow-up record “Between a Laugh and a Tear” with the same lineup.

At the moment, he is working on his third record with Bredice and former Honk and Funky Kings multi-instrumentalist Richard Stekol. This new record is a departure from the big band sound of the first two records with most songs stripped down to just acoustic guitar, harmonica, mandolin, lap steel guitar, and vocals.

Nick Justice continues to perform in around southern California.
