Modkat

How it began.

Rich’s cats Mika and Sashi needed a new litter box that worked great and complemented the look of his modern, Brooklyn apartment. Rich searched exhaustively and came up empty handed. In defeat, he complained to his wife until she said, You're a designer, why don't you just design one! The next day Rich presented the idea to Brett, his then-partner in a graphic design business (and industrial design graduate), who thought the idea was brilliant and the partners immediately began sketching. Two years later, after several prototypes and tons of cat testing, the litter box was finished. Rich and Brett introduced the Modkat Litter Box at the 2009 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), where it earned The Editor's Choice Award for Best Accessory, and soon after was bestowed the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. Rich, Mika and Sashi were happy and Modkat was born.

Modkat has since been recognized in numerous publications including Forbes, Dwell, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Knot, Houzz, Gizmodo, NYCxDESIGN, BuzzFeed, Wanted Design, DWR Design Notes, The Dieline, and Apartment Therapy.

Where we’re going.

Our mission is to make the best possible products for cats that combine a simple, minimalist approach with top quality materials. We are excited to be expanding our modern cat product line that started with the award-winning Modkat Litter Box. Modkat is located in Industry City Brooklyn.

Modko is now Modkat, again.

It's all in a name. Modkat was our original company name and we have brought it back for good reason. We are now soley focused on bringing you the safest, most functional and most beautiful CAT products on the market. We're working on some exciting new products and we're super excited to share our new line up arriving later this year, stay tuned!
