The year was 2010......my palms were all sweaty, my stomach was in knots and my head was pounding. We looked at our financials...and then our bank account, and then realized that we were about to run out of cash in the next 60 days.

My wife and I started a home care business 5 years earlier with the vision of being able to help people and live the entrepreneurial dream...be my own boss. Answer to no-one. Little did we know that we were about to put ourselves into a 24-7 pressure cooker.

For about half of the time we owned our business our home care agency was running us. On that fateful day in 2010 we realized that we were close to losing it all...EVERYTHING WE HAD!!!

Even more troubling was that my relationship with my wife was on the rocks because we couldn't figure out how to separate home and work life.

I was literally on the verge a nervous breakdown!

I knew something had to change and the only logical way I saw to get out of the grips of the impending doom (i.e running out of cash) was to grow our revenue.

Yet, even with 15 years sales experience, what I was doing still wasn't working.

I knew deep down inside there had to be a better way.

So I went all in and started learning everything I could get my hands on about strategic sales and marketing from people who were way smarter than me.

What happened the next 12 months still seems kind of surreal to me because we were able to 5X our profits from $45,827 to $248,703 on our way to building a multi-million $$ company, with over 150 caregivers and happy clients.

A few years after that we got to the point where i was working less than 15 hours per week in our business (as an average). I even took a full 8 months off to witness the birth of our 3rd child and cherish in the opportunity to experience her childhood (unlike my first 2 kids). I was finally living the life I envisioned when we started this entrepreneurial journey.

Sadly, most of my peers were still struggling.

So...why should this matter to you? I'm not sharing this to brag.

I've decided to share what I learned with my peers with the hopes I can help others avoid some of the pain and heartache I dealt with during our difficult struggles. I also came to realize that running a smaller agency is WAY TOUGHER than running a larger one.
