Friends of Clayton County Cats

N/A Facebook Messenger Global Rank

Who are we? We formed this VOLUNTEER group in order to help cats get adopted/rescued from Clayton County Animal Control in Jonesboro, GA. We hope to save as many lives as we can by bringing to the public the faces of the Clayton cats trapped in our high-kill shelter. Through our followers' advocating and crossposting, we feel we can make a difference and save lives together! WE ARE NOT A RESCUE. WE ARE NOT CLAYTON COUNTY or POLICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES.

Who runs this page?

This page is run by Diviya Roney, Jennifer Kleme, and Mandy Filler. We share a commonality in our advocacy for all living things that find themselves in harm's way.

What do I do if I see a cat I wish to adopt?

Well, first, thank you!! In order to ADOPT, YOU must be able to visit IN PERSON with your ID. WE ARE IN GEORGIA. This measure is taken for the safety of the Pet. All Adoptions are first come, first serve. We are unable to hold cats or kittens for you. If you happen to see a cat you wish to adopt and you are in the vicinity, come down first thing in the morning with cash or money order. The adoption fee includes pre-paid vouchers towards spay/neuter and Rabies:

FEES: Male Cats -$55 Fee includes: $25 adoption fee $20 pre-paid neuter voucher $10 pre-paid rabies voucher

Female Cats -$65 fee includes: $25 adoption fee $30 pre-paid spay voucher $10 pre-paid rabies voucher

What if I wish to rescue a cat?

Please email us at [email protected] with your rescue's license and who you are interested in rescuing. You will need to arrange a foster to come and pick up your cat, or if transport help is necessary, please email us immediately. ***(See update below) Out of state rescue will need a licensed GA rescue to pull through. If you do not have one you regularly work with, again, please email us!

*** PLEASE NOTE: As of OCT. 21, 2015 Out of State Rescue organizations that are obtaining animals with the intent of re-homing them must apply for a non-resident license with the Georgia Department of Agriculture Companion Animal Section. The contact number is 404-656-4914. The annual fee for a non-resident license is $400 annually. Out of State rescues must adhere to the same policy concerning the authorization of individuals that may obtain animals on their behalf. An additional requirement for non-resident Animal Rescue Organizations is to execute consent to the jurisdiction of the Courts in this State as outlined in O.C.G.A. § 4-11-6 § 4-11-6.

How do I pledge for a cat?

It's easy, rewarding and saves lives and we thank you for your support! Simply post the dollar amount (ex. $10.00) you wish to pledge directly on the Urgent Album thread of the cat you would like to help. If the cat you pledged for is rescued, we will line tag and pm you the link to the cat's thread to honor your pledge once the cat is safe and out of the building.. Please make sure to check your message request and inbox as Facebook's settings do not always allow us to pm directly to your Inbox. Pledges go directly to the rescue that pulls the cat from Clayton County Animal Control. Friends of Clayton County Cats is NOT a rescue, we do not have a paypal account, nor do we collect ANY monies whatsoever. Rescue will provide us with their PayPal address and is preferred method of payment as it provides the funds immediately for vetting etc. We will also provide the rescue's mailing address for pledges as a second payment option. Please remember to check our Safe Album for up to date status on the cats. This will help us in getting pledges to the rescue in a timely manner.

What happens if the cat I pledged for is adopted or reclaimed rather than rescued?

Pledges are for rescues only and go directly to the rescue that pulls the animal. However, if the cat is adopted or reclaimed rather than rescued we will not ask you to honor your pledge. You can simply re-pledge your original pledge to another cat that remains at Animal Control in the URGENT Album. Simply re-post your pledge amount on the Urgent Album thread of another cat of your choice. It's that easy!

Another big way you can help the cats and kittens at Clayton County?? Transport and FOSTER!! It saves lives! Rescues are in great need of fosters and we always need transporters. Please email your contact info to [email protected] if you are local and able to help TY!

What days are animals euthanized? Euthanasia day is Tuesday and the doors are closed by 8:45 am so there is a very brief period of time in the morning where a rescue can claim an animal. Additionally, there can be “surprise” euthanasia days when the shelter gets over crowded. If this happens no animal is safe regardless of their available date.
