Angeles Roy For City College Trustee

My story, like that of thousands of others, is that of success and upward mobility thanks to San Francisco City College and its affordable and high-quality education.

Growing up in a blue collar, single parent household in Chile, higher education was out of my reach. That lack of opportunity was what drove me to immigrate to the United States ten years ago, full of hope and determination to realize my dreams. Like many immigrants before me, I struggled in the beginning. San Francisco City College became the safe haven that would allow me to master the English language, adapt to my new adoptive country, and transfer to UC Berkeley where I graduated with a degree in Political Science in 2013.

Since my time at City College, I've dedicated myself to social justice, working to better our community for everyone, including:

Leading efforts to elect women and people of color; Advocating and organizing for criminal justice reform and reproductive rights for organizations such as ACLU and California Latinas for Reproductive Justice; Empowering the next generation of political leaders as President of the San Francisco Young Democrats-––the largest Young Democrats organization in the state; Working to protect our immigrant community as an Immigrant Rights Commissioner; Fighting for our progressive values as an elected delegate to the California Democratic Party; and Working towards building a more sustainable future between California and my home country of Chile as a non-profit and government professional. As a Trustee, I want to make sure that many others will have the opportunity I had to fulfill their dreams, support their families and contribute to the social, cultural and economic fabric of San Francisco -- the city I'm fortunate to call home.

I'm ready to use the skills, knowledge, and firsthand experience that I've gained as an immigrant, student, and young leader to give back to the City College community that changed my life.
